In the early 1970's the Assemblies of God bought our existing church building and Elim Assembly of God came into existence. With the help of the Assemblies of God church in Lynchburg, VA. Rev. Billy Melton came to Altavista to be the first Pastor to minister to the community and impact the area for Christ.
Over the next several years the church experienced exciting growth and under the leadership of Pastor David McLaughlin and Pastor Gilbert Foster we continued to make an impact on the Town of Altavista.
In December of 1987 our current Pastor, David Rowland and his wife, Marie and daughter, Amber, came to Pastor. Under their ministry we have experienced the continued blessings of God. With the purchase of adjacent land and the continual upgrades to the facility we have positioned our building and grounds to accommodate continued growth.
We are excited to see what God has in store for Altavista, our Women's Ministry is always ready to step up and help in a time of need. Our youth program is observing exciting growth as they step in new areas of "serving" the community. We have started a new Coffee House Ministry on Sunday mornings at 9:30 that encourages fellowship while also having a intimate time in God's Word before the 11:00 Worship service. During this time, our children ages 3-11 are ministered to as well in a separate service designed especially for them.
We are currently starting a training program for Royal Ranger Leaders to impact young men in the area.
Our mission is: To see souls saved, To see the sick and hurting healed, and To see anyone who visits our Assembly leave encouraged, no matter their circumstance. Our vision is: To impact the Town of Altavista and the surrounding area for the cause of Christ and to bring continued excitement into the lives in our area.
We are, "Christ followers, with Biblical answers, for Today's problems."
